In today’s world, urban developments are a major concern of policymakers, planners, public officials, and environmental advocates. Such developments may result in “in-between” landscapes, like this can be the case in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), whose cities have expanded several times their size in comparison with what they used to be, even as recently as the 1970s and 1980s. In that country, two different cultures coexist: the local Bedouin culture, and that of international affairs. Real estate, recreation and office infrastructure programs are being undertaken, some-times abandoned along the way, and giving rise to transient nibbles on the desert.
